Dr Nick Derwas

Veterinarian (BSc BVMS (Hons))

Nick has co owned the practice with Fiona for over 20 years. He graduated from Murdoch University in 1990 with a
Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery with honors
after first completing a Science Degree at Adelaide University in biochemistry and microbiology. After graduating he worked
for a short time in the Department of Agriculture, then moved
into busy small animal practice, gaining considerable
experience in small animal surgery and internal medicine. His special
 interests include geriatric medicine, orthopedic surgery, dentistry
and oncology.


Dr Fiona McShane

Veterinarian (BSc BVMS)

Fiona has co owned the practice with Nick for over 20 years. She graduated from Murdoch University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery. After graduating she has worked exclusively in small animal practice, this included locum work and as senior veterinarian in a large multi-vet practice. She has extensive experience in surgery and feline medicine. Her interests include feline medicine and surgery.


Dr Mike Adams

Veterinarian (BSc BVMS (Hons))

Mike graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Science in 2005, further completing his honours degree and PhD. From there he progressed to Murdoch University graduating with a degree of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery. Mike has had extensive experience in South Australia before settling at Hawthorn Vet Hospital in 2015. His special interests include medicine, imaging and surgery.


Dr Hannah Griffiths

Veterinarian (BSc DVM)

Hannah graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. From there she worked in a small country town in NSW before progressing onto an animal pharmaceutical company in the Clare Valley.She returned to Adelaide and joined Hawthorn Vet Hospital in December 2018. Her passions are surgery and client education on how to prevent illness and care for their pets. At home she has 2 dogs, JB and Missy and 2 cats Red and Tiger.


Anna

Veterinary Nurse (Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing)

Anna has been vet nursing for over 15 years, having completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2005 and has spent all of this time in small animal practice. Her current fur family consists of Lucy the rescue cat and Sophie a small terrier cross. She also has a keen interest in horses, especially Natural Horsemanship, & emergency vet nursing.


Sarah

Veterinary Nurse (Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing)

Sarah started studying Veterinary Nursing in 2003 and completed it in 2006. She has also completed her Certificate IV in Animal Laboratory Technology. She has worked in different practices but has been nursing at Hawthorn Vet Hospital for over 13 years. Her special area of interest is surgical nursing. At home she has a dog and 2 cats.


Renae

Veterinary Nurse (Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing )

Renae holds a certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and has had 8 years experience in small animal nursing. Renae joined the Hawthorn team in June 2018. She has a particular interest in nutrition and surgery. In her spare time she enjoys running, movies and experimenting in the kitchen, with her two Labradors, Koda and Pippin who are never far away!

 


Sophia

Veterinary Nurse (Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing)

Sophia joined the Hawthorn Vet Hospital team in December 2017.Upon graduating high school, she completed her Certificate II and III in Companion Animal Studies before progressing onto Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing at TAFE SA in 2016. She enjoys all aspects of nursing particularly surgical and behaviour.In her spare time she relaxes with a good movie accompanied by her furbaby Sodapop the spoodle.


Shae

Veterinary Nurse (Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing)

Shae was fortunate enough to join the Hawthorn Vet Hospital team whilst completing her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing through Open Colleges in 2018. She has a mini zoo at home consisting of  her cat Marmalade, Labrador Gypsy, Randy the rabbit and Teresa turtle.
